Official Information Act request
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request dated 16 September 2025,
asking for information about the person convicted of aggravated robbery in relation to the
murder of Damon O’Rourke. You requested:
information pertaining to the murder of Palmerston North man Damon O’rourke on
20.01.2024 and related court proceedings.
Specifically the identity of the persons initially charged with murder and later
convicted of aggravated robbery, after pleading guilty before trial, in connection to the
death of Mr. O’rourke.
I also request details of all available facts/information/evidence relevant to the
decisions made in laying the initial murder charge and the grounds for
downgrade/plea deal to aggravated robbery for the individuals concerned.
This information is court information which is exempt from the Act under section 2(6)(a).
Therefore, your request is refused under section 18(g) of the Act, as the information you
have requested is not held by the Ministry and there are no grounds for believing it is held by
another agency subject to the Act.
