Thank you for your request of 10 October 2025 to Fire and Emergency New Zealand requesting
information relating to Type 4 appliances under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). We copy
and respond to each aspect of your request below.
1. What stage the Type 4 project is at compared to 2 years ago.
Two years ago, work was underway to define the operational requirements for replacing Type 4
appliances, but we had not established the Type 4 replacement project. We now have a project
underway, and it is in the planning stage of our project lifecycle (the project life cycle framework
defines project phases as: pipeline, initiation, planning, delivery implementation and closedown).
We recently issued a Request for Information (RFI) to get an understanding of what is available in
the market and wil use the information received to inform the development of requirements and
specifications for future appliances. The RFI closed on 29 October 2025.
2. Please provide copies of any documents regarding the plans for the Type 4 procurement
that explains what has been decided or investigated to date.
Please find attached, as the
Appendix to this response, a copy of the RFI for Type 4 appliances.
3. What is FENZ expected service life of Type 4 appliances? (there are FENZ documents that
state 20 years and 25 years for Type 4's, which is it?)
The target asset life for Type 4 appliances is 20 years.
