Your request for information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
(LGOIMA) – (case number CAS-1184942-L3D8V7)
Kia ora Adam,
I refer to your official information request dated 29 August 2025 regarding bus route 82.
What are the plans, if any, to update the on board 'next stop' announcements on the No. 82 bus where it
stops at the bottom of Esmonde Road? Currently, the last stop heading city bound is announced as
"Harbourside Church" in Maori and English. Heading towards Takapuna it is only announced in English.
Is there any particular reason for the announcement in Maori not being made?
The name 'Harbourside Church' is now provided in both Māori and English for announcements made in
either direction.
Also, and more importantly, why is the announcement stil "Harbourside Church" when there hasn't
been a church at the location for several years? Are there any plans to change or update announcements
on the busses? What are the options being considered for a new 'name' for that bus stop?
Auckland Transport are currently looking into renaming this stop. New stop names are chosen to reflect
landmarks including schools, parks, churches, tourist locations and hospitals, as well as public transport
interchanges and major intersections.
After confirming a new name, we plan to update the bus audio system to announce it within 3 months.
We trust this clarifies your request, but should you believe that we have not dealt with your request
appropriately, you are able to make a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman in accordance with
section 27(3) of the LGOIMA Act and seek an investigation and review in regard to this matter.
Ngā mihi,
