Key reductions
Potential reductions by role type
To achieve a $2.00m baseline reduction from the Ministry’s departmental baseline, both targeted and cross Ministry reductions will be proposed. The

proposal in development will need to further reduce the number of Ministry personnel to approximately 132, with up to 8 additional roles reducing
through the year as transition work is completed. This means the Ministry will be doing less with less.

•
Tier 2 leaders: from five down to three
•
Groups: from five groups to three, plus a small Office of the CE (consolidation of Māori-Crown and delivery, and strategic and corporate functions)

•
Principal Advisers: reduction of Principal Advisers across the Ministry.

In addition to this, there are three key areas where targeted reductions will be considered:
• Policy
• Heritage content and programming
Potential role split by functional grouping
• System performance, monitoring and appointments.

To cause the least impact to areas of Ministerial priority, and to ensure we are focused on our core business (including meeting our statutory and

workforce
legislative obligations), the proposal will likely identify the heritage content and programming functions as the focus area for reductions – while
maintaining sufficient resource to meet our stewardship responsibilities. Other key reductions focus on streamlining of administrative supports and
design and production functions. The final proposal should enable the Ministry to operate within expected fiscal baselines next year and in outyears.
