Official Information Act request relating to emails received by the Prime Minister
urging action on Israel’s conduct in Gaza
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), received
on 26 July 2025. You requested:
“The total number of emails received by the Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, from
members of the New Zealand public, between 7 October 2023 and today, that request
or urge the Government to take stronger action in response to Israel’s conduct towards
Palestinians, including possible war crimes.
To help narrow the scope, I request that this be based on emails that include one or
more of the following keywords or phrases:
• “war crimes”
• “sanctions”
• “accountability”
• “stop Israel”
• “do more” (in reference to Gaza or Palestine)
• “protect civilians”
• “take action on Israel”
I am not requesting the content of the emails, only the number that meet these criteria.
If a keyword-based search is possible, that would be sufficient.”
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet does not hold information relating to your
request. I believe such information is held by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Christopher Luxon.
Accordingly, I have decided to transfer your request to the Prime Minister under section
14(b)(i) of the Act.
The Prime Minister has the usual timeframes under the Act from receipt of this transfer to
make a decision on your request.
Nākū noa, nā
