Official Information Act request relating to NZ Response Teams 
 
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 22 July 2025. 
You requested: 
 
Dear National Emergency Management Agency, I am requesting all documents relating 
to New Zealand Response Teams. Particularly Appendices B through to H of the NZRT 
National Operating Guidelines. 
On 31 July 2025, staff from the Ministerial Services Team contacted you via your FYI email 
address to refine the part of your request seeking copies of all documents relating to New 
Zealand  Response  Teams  (NZRT)  as  it  had  been  assessed  that  this  would  require 
substantial collation and research, and therefore would more than likely be refused under 
section 18(f) of the Act.  
On 4 August 2025 you responded with the following clarification: 
 
Those appendices would be the main thing but maybe NZRT5 would work as a 
specific team for the refinement.  
 
I'm primarily looking to understand things such as how they function, how they 
operate, what equipment they use, what their relationship with NEMA is, team sizes, 
establishment/accreditation dates, etc beyond what is already available on the 
website; but it's hard to know exactly what I'm looking for without knowing what 
information exists. So, whatever you can give me that isn't too much and doesn't run 
into other issues would be helpful.  
 
Apologies for the non-specific request initially. I didn't realise that there'd be 
thousands of documents; I thought NEMA might not have all that much information 
on them as most of it would be in the hands of the owning organisations.
