Dear Shane
Extension of time to respond to request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 3 July 2025 requesting the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act) pertaining to the fatal road accident involving Mr Bryan Marris:
- Any safety assessments or "engineer's reports" carried out by Waka Kotahi or its contractors
on the Hewletts Road on-road cycle lane and the Tasman Quay intersection following the
incident;
- Documentation detailing proposed or implemented road design changes in response to the
incident, including PDF layout plans or concept drawings reflecting the current or intended
design state;
- Any internal investigation reports, reviews, or evaluations conducted by Waka Kotahi in the
aftermath of the incident.
This letter is to advise you that NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is extending the 20 working
days available to respond to your request, as allowed for under section 15A of the Act. We require an
additional three working days and wil send you a response on or before 5 August 2025.
The deadline is being extended as the consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are
such that a thorough response cannot reasonably be made within the original 20-working-day limit.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to complain to the Ombudsman about the extension.
More information about the Ombudsman is available online at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
If you would like to discuss the extension with NZTA, please email the Ministerial Services team via
email to [NZTA request email].
Yours sincerely
Sam Russell
