Official Information Act request: Community Magistrates daily remuneration 
Thank you for your email of 13 May 2025 requesting under the Official Information Act 1982 
(the Act), information regarding Community Magistrates. Specifically, you requested: 
how much exactly you have additionally compensate attendees? Also, is that a per 
hour figure or per day figure.  
In 2023 when prospective Community Magistrates were asked to complete pre-selection 
training, they were paid the standard daily compensation rate for Community Magistrates of 
$1,200. The daily rate is determined by the Remuneration Authority, an independent 
government body.  
All attendees of the pre-selection training in 2023 were remunerated in accordance with the 
standard Community Magistrate sitting fee policies applicable at the time.
