Thank you for your email of 8 May 2025 to the Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama
Aotearoa, requesting names and contact details of staff in charge of prisons and health
departments. Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982
(OIA).

You requested:

I am writing to request the latest contact information, including names, professional
e-mail addresses and direct phone numbers for the following Corrections roles:

- National Commissioners
- Health Departments,

It is imperative that this information is easily accessible as these are the people
looking after our prisons.

As noted in Corrections’ previous response, dated 4 July 2024 (our reference C182997), on 1
April 2024, Corrections transitioned into our new structure as part of The Pathway
Forward: Te Ara Whakamua. We have interpreted your request for to be the relevant roles
that exist in the new organisational structure.

For further information about Corrections’ structure and the rest of Corrections’ Executive
Leadership Team, you may wish to refer to information available on our website at:
https://www.corrections.govt.nz/about_us/who_we_are/our_structure

In accordance with section 9(1) of the OIA, we have also considered whether there are
countervailing public interest considerations favouring the release of the remainder of the
requested information. While it is in the public interest that people who have concerns
about how the justice sector operates and the people who are involved in it can raise their
concerns, this needs to be balanced against the effective administration of prisons and to

ensure that staff are able to carry out their duties. Therefore, in this instance, Corrections
has balanced the public interest of transparency and accountability by providing positions
and staff names, while withholding contacting details. The contact details are withheld in
accordance with the following sections of the OIA:
  9(2)(a), protect the privacy or natural persons
  9(2)(g)(ii), maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the protections of
such employees from improper pressure or harassment.

In order to be of assistance, we have provided links to the contact details for each prison.
This is due to the fact that staff who are currently in roles may change, take annual or sick
leave or resign from Corrections’ employment at any time. If you or any member of the
public wish to contact Corrections regarding any matters related to prisons, you can contact
us through multiple avenues who can direct your queries or concerns to the most
appropriate business unit to assist you.

In the first instance, any queries or concerns can be emailed to [Department of Corrections request email].
Members of the public can also lodge complaints via the Corrections website – Complaint
resolution and directly to the Office of the Inspectorate via their website – Making a
complaint. Furthermore, a prisoner’s legal counsel is able to contact each prison to organise
legal visits and escalate any matter to an operations team. Contact information to support
the booking of legal visits is available on our website.

Please note that this response may be published on Corrections’ website. Typically,
