[FYI request #30823 email]
Dear John
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 24 April 2025, in which you asked
for information regarding Patrons of Royal New Zealand Police College recruit wings.
My response to each part of your request can be found below.
1. Updates on the list of wing patrons and their bio to 1st April 2025
Please refer to the list of wing patrons attached to this request.
2. How many wing patron nominations or referrals you have received since 1st January 2023.
The process for nominating and assigning Wing Patron is aligned to the schedule of recruit wings at The
Royal New Zealand Police College (RNZPC). Therefore, the number of nominations is approximately
equal to the number of recruit wings. The number of recruit wings that have begun training and/or
graduate from the RNZPC since 1 January 2023 is 23 (Wings 365 â€“ 388).
3. How many you have accepted and how many you have declined.
Police does not hold records on how many nominations have been accepted or declined. As such, this
part of your request is refused under section 18(g) of the OIA, as this information is not held by Police.
4. Are there any nominations or referrals not yet decided by the Commissioner?
As at the time of your request, there are no nominations or referrals pending a decision by the
Commissioner.
5. How can individuals self-nominate or be nominated by the public to become a Wing Patron?
Alternatively, how does the Police identify or select individuals to serve in this role?
There is no self-nomination process to become a Wing Patron. Nominations are made by New
Zealand Police staff to the Royal New Zealand Police College, drawing on the relationships our staff
have with leaders within the community. The nominations are then provided to the Commissioner’s
Office for final approval.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police proactively releases
some information and documents that may be of interest to the public. An anonymised version of this
response may be publicly released on the New Zealand Police website.
Yours sincerely
Superintendent Penny Gifford
Director: RNZPC
