Thank you for your request to the Department of Conservation (DOC), received on 28 March
2025, regarding Pure Tūroa Limited’s (PTL) 2024 concession at the Tūroa ski field.

We have considered your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the OIA). Your
questions and our responses are listed below:

1.  What applications for concessions, or variations to the 2024 concession, have been applied
for in the prior 6 months by Pure Turoa Limited and why?

PTL has applied for the following two variations to their concession in the past 6 months:

•  Approve existing infrastructure for year-round use. PTL has applied for this activity to
allow for it to expand its operations outside of the winter ski season currently authorised.

•  Avalanche control and active management outside the Tūroa ski area boundary. This
activity will help manage health and safety risks during winter operations.

2.  If these concession applications are not approved, will Pure Turoa Limited be permitted to
operate in 2025 winter season? Have any been approved?

A variation application is a request for a change to the current concession. If the concession
variations are not approved by the winter season, PTL will still be able to operate under the
conditions of their current concession with no further changes. No variations to the concession
have been approved to date.

3.  Has the Department received any advice about the solvency or insolvency of Pure Turoa
Limited?

DOC has not received any advice about the solvency or insolvency of PTL.

Please note that this letter (with your personal details removed) may be published on DOC’s
website.
