Re: Changes to building consent after issue 
 
I refer to your official information request dated 06 December 2024 for a list of building 
consent numbers and properties that that have had building consents re-issued with 
changes  made  for  the  same  building  work.  This  excludes  amendments  to  building 
consents or minor variations. 
  
Due to the substantial amount of work that would be required to research and collate 
the information you have requested; we are refusing your request under section 17(f) 
of the LGOIMA 
  
The way we record building consent does not give a unique data identifier which can 
be  extracted  to  demonstrate  what  you  are  requesting  as  we  deal  with  re-issuing 
consents in two separate ways, by amendment/ MV or clerical change. We are unable 
to  quickly  and  accurately  extract  the  number  of  building  consents  re-issued  with 
changes  made  for  the  same  building  work.   The  true  number  of  re-issued  building 
consents  and  the  reason  for  reissuing  can  only  be  determined  by  reading  the 
description of each application and manually extracting the information requested.  
  
We have considered whether charging or extending the timeframe for responding to 
your request  would help, as required by section 17A of  the LGOIMA.  However, the 
amount  of  time  it  would  take  to  locate  and  collate  the  information  would  have  a 
significant impact on our ability to carry out our other functions.  We would not be able 
to extend our response time or apply a charge to be able to respond to this request in 
its current form.
