Thank you for your email dated 28 November 2024, regarding emission rates caused by
traffic congestion since the installation of cycle lanes.
Your request has been considered under the Local Government Official Information and
Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).
As per my refinement email on 6 December 2024, the Wel ington City Council (the Council)
does not hold the information that you have requested. We do not hold specific data on
emission rates before and after the installation of the Molesworth Street and Oriental
Parade- Kent Terrace cycle routes. Information that is held is city wide emission which is not
broken down by ward, suburb, or cycle route. We have refused under section 17(g) of the
LGOIMA as the information requested is not held by the Local Authority.
Please refer to our website for information published
on city-wide
emissions, particularly
see Appendix C of the Wel ington City Community Carbon Footprint
Report 2022/23 , which outlines the research the Council has undertaken on on-road
transport emissions. Greater Wellington Regional Council also publish their reports on their
public website alongside the existing previous inventories, please see their page
Greater
Wel ington — Monitoring emissions. The GHG Emission Inventory 2024 report wil soon be
made publicly available, however for convenience we have attached the report.
The Council has received your refinement and will treat this as a new request.
You have the right, by way of complaint under section 28(1) of the LGOIMA, to request an
investigation and review of the Council’s decision by the Ombudsman. Information about
how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800
802 602.
If you require further information, please contac
