Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email of 18 November 2024 requesting information regarding drone use over the
Auckland Harbour Bridge under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
I have responded to each part of your request in turn below.
Al communications concerning the requesting or granting of approval for drone use above the
motorway and part way up the harbour bridge on the 13th of November.
Confirmation received by NZTA that the drone pilot was CCA qualified.
Confirmation that a risk assessment undertaken by NZTA given the high risk to motorists and
public walking in the Hikoi. Please provide details and communications.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) did not receive any requests for approval of drone use for
filming the Hīkoi on 13 November 2024.
Any communications/complaints from the 13th of November to date if any, concerning
unauthorised drone use to film the Hikoi.
NZTA has not received any complaints regarding drone use to film the Hīkoi on 13 November 2024.
Is the NZTA currently investigating unauthorised drone use on the motorway and Harbour
bridge relating to the Hikoi on the 13th of November?
No, as this is not a function of NZTA.
On 6 December 2024, this part of your request was transferred to the Civil Aviation Authority of New
Zealand, as this part of your request is more closely related to their functions.
Number of times drone use has been authorised by the NZTA in the last 10 years to film
people crossing the Harbour bridge. Please provide details of the event and date.
No requests from third parties to use a drone to film vehicles or people crossing the Auckland Harbour
Bridge have been authorised by NZTA in the last 10 years.
