Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-037633
Thank you for your request of 20 January 2025, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
1. What is the procedure for submitting a claim to ACC for tinnitus caused by exposure to loud
noise?
2. When submitting a claim for tinnitus caused by exposure to loud noise, is it necessary to
initially submit a claim for hearing loss?
3. if the answer to question 2 is yes, is this so even if there is no evidence of hearing loss
occurring as a result of the exposure to loud noise?
4. if the answer to question 2 is yes, is this so even if there is evidence that no hearing loss has
occurred as a result of the exposure to loud noise?

Information about submitting a claim is available on the ACC website, here: https://www.acc.co.nz/im-
injured/what-to-do. Please note, if a client is not covered for a particular health condition under the
ACC Scheme, they should seek support through the New Zealand Health system via their GP or other
primary care provider.
