OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST 24.158
I refer to the Official Information Act (the Act) request dated 6 October 2024 for information relating to
campus development at UC. You have specifical y requested:
1) A copy of the University of Canterbury's current Campus Master Plan, detailing how the
University plans to develop the campus over the coming years.
The University does not have a master plan for the development of the campus. This is currently
being redrawn and wil be available in the middle of 2025. This part of the request is refused under
OIA s 18(e), as the information requested does not exist.
2) Information on the University's transport outcomes and plans, specifical y:
a) What specific actions is the University taking to increase the use of sustainable transport modes
(e.g. walking, cycling, public transport) for staff and students traveling to campus?
No current actions. A new sustainable travel plan designed to promote cycling, walking, and
sustainable means of accessing the campus is currently under development, for which there wil be a
consultation process during 2025. This part of the request is refused under OIA s 18(e), as the
information requested does not exist.
b) Are there any targets or metrics the University is using to measure progress on increasing
sustainable transport use?
Further targets and metrics wil be issued at the time of consultation, but please see linked
Sustainability Plan 2022-2030. c) What is the current status of plans mentioned in the Landscape Master Plan to reduce reliance
on cars and create more pedestrianised areas on campus? Specifical y:
• The plan to turn Science Road into a shared space and ful y pedestrianised entrance boulevard
There are no plans at this time to create a shared space on Science Road.
• Any other major changes to campus roads or parking areas to prioritise sustainable transport
As part of the sustainable travel plan proposals wil be developed for the use of campus car parks and
roads. There are a number of changes proposed in terms of car parking, car parking charges and
access arrangements. These are currently being developed and wil be communicated as part of the
integrated sustainable travel plan during 2025.
d) What strategies is the University employing to encourage sustainable transport choices,
particularly for those living within walking/cycling distance of campus?
Incentives and disincentives to travel by sustainable means to and from the campus wil be
announced as part of the sustainable travel plan during 2025. This part of the request is refused
under OIA s 18(e), as the information requested does not exist.
3) An update on the implementation status and timeline of the key transport and landscape
changes outlined in the Landscape Master Plan and UC Cycle Plan 2022-2030.

4) Any reports or assessments conducted in the last 3 years on campus transport patterns, mode
share, or related sustainability metrics.
