Official Information Act request: Press releases 
 
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 18 September 
2024. You requested: 
 
“Please advise the below. 
 
1. Has a target/KPI/expectation been set for Ministers to publish a certain number of 
press releases within a certain timeframe? for example, one press release per week. 
 
2. If the answer to 1 is yes, please advise the target number of press releases. 
 
3. Please provide the communication sent to Ministers to advise them of this target. 
 
4. Is this target being actively managed? If so please provide information on the 
monitoring of this target. I.e showing which Ministers are meeting the target. 
 
5. Please advise any memo or information prepared to support Ministers in gaining 
permission (if required) to publish a press release.” 
 
No targets, KPIs or expectations have been set by the Prime Minister for Ministers to publish 
a certain number of press releases within a specific timeframe. Furthermore, no targets or 
expectations have been set in regard to the publishing of press releases in general. I am 
therefore refusing your request under section 18(e) of the Act as the requested information 
does not exist.   
 
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under 
section 28(3) of the Act.
