Official Information Act request: Government target 4 data
Thank you for your email of 12 September 2024, to the Department of the Prime Minister
and Cabinet (DPMC), requesting under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act),
information on Government target data. Specifically, you requested:
Your factsheets at https://www.dpmc.govt.nz/our-programmes/government-targets on
the nine Government Targets have charts showing historical information for each
target. Can I have the data that each chart is based on please.
On 23 September 2024, your request was partially transferred to the Ministry of Justice (the
Ministry) for response under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act, as the Ministry is responsible for
producing target 4 data.
Please note the Ministry’s response is limited to the data for target 4 and that while the
Ministry supplied Oranga Tamariki with the core data to measure target 3, it did not model or
estimate the trajectory. Therefore, Oranga Tamariki will be responding to the part of your
request regarding target 3.
In response to your request please see the attached table which shows the number of adults
who experienced an assault, robbery or sexual assault.
If you require any further information, please contact Media & Social Media Manager Joe
Locke at [email address].
Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be published on the
Ministry website at: justice.govt.nz/about/official-information-act-requests/oia-responses/
If you are not satisfied with this response, you have the right to make a complaint to the
Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. The Office of the Ombudsman may be
contacted by email to [email address] or by phone on 0800 802 602.

Notes:
• The estimated trajectory was estimated in March 2024.
• These is uncertainty in the estimates due to sample error as the estimates come from the
New Zealand Crime and Victim Survey. As such, each estimate has an associated Margin of
Error (MoE) accompanying it. The MoE represents the 95% Confidence Interval and is a
measure of statistical uncertainty. The higher the MoE, the greater the uncertainty in the
estimates.
