Thank you for your correspondence of 2 September 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment (MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
The applicant can meet the requirements for applying for a Permanent Resident Visa (PRV)
through five methods, namely: Significant period of time spent in New Zealand, Tax residence
status in New Zealand, Investment in New Zealand, Establishment of a business in New Zealand,
and Base established in New Zealand.
Please provide the number of PRVs approved for each method annually from 2014 to 2024, as well
as the number of PRVs approved for each method annually for applicants from China.
I am writing to advise you that MBIE has decided to extend the period of time available to make a
decision on your request under section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made
within the original time limit.
As such, a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. MBIE will notify you
of a decision on your request no later than 9 October 2024.
