Thank you for your request of 17 August 2024, to Fire and Emergency New Zealand requesting the 
following information: 
 
•  Does your organisation have any policy or guidelines in regard to employees in operational 
roles who take prescription cannabis or other prescription medication that may cause 
impairment. 
 
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). 
 
Fire and Emergency does not have policies or guidelines specific to medication impairment in the 
workplace. However, there are policies which allow us to manage impairment where it is identified 
or disclosed. As there are no specific medication impairment policies or guidelines, it is necessary 
for us to refuse your request under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the document alleged to contain 
the information requested does not exist. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
