Thank you for your email of 11 August 2024 to the Department of Corrections – Ara
Poutama Aotearoa, requesting the following information:

I would like to know how many people are incarcerated on remand because their bail
was revoked by a judge, only to have the case dismissed with no charges.

This could include:
Judge alone trails where the remanded inmate is dismissed of all charges and
released.

Jury trials where the remanded inmate is dismissed of all charges by a jury of their
peers and released.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the Official Information Act 1982
(OIA).

As the information you have requested is believed to be more closely connected to the
functions of the Ministry of Justice. I have transferred all of your request in accordance with
section 14 of the OIA.

You may expect a response from the Ministry of Justice within 20 working days.

I hope this information is helpful.
