Our response to your request: Please refer t
o Appendix 1 below.
The data provided in Appendix 1 is for all diseases, except for Meningococcal B, is based on
data extracted from EpiSurv, the national notifiable disease surveillance database on 12 July
2024. Data covers the annual cases notified between 1997 and 2023. EpiSurv does not
contain data from prior to 1997.
All notifications recorded in EpiSurv that meet the case definitions, other than cases
classified as ‘not a case’, are included. In some instances, the investigation of a case may
not be complete, and the status may be set to ‘under investigation’.
Information about the case definitions used for each disease is available in the Health New
Zealand Communicable disease control manual -
https://www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/for-health-
professionals/clinical-guidance/communicable-disease-control-manual/. As requested, we have provided data on Group B meningococcal disease notifications only,
please note this is a subset of notification for Invasive Meningococcal disease.
The data provided for Meningococcal group B cases is based on data extracted from
EpiSurv and the ESR laboratory information management system on 18 July 2024.
More information about Pertussis, IPD, Meningococcal disease and measles is also
available in our interactive dashboards available here:
