Thank you for your email of 19 April 2024 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
Could I please request any and all internal resources used by MBIE, Immigration New Zealand and their
staff regarding the changes to AEWVs announced 7th April 2024. Internal resources include but are
not limited to SOPS, decision trees, guides, memos, training guides, process flows, presentations and
alert emails.
On 9 May we asked you to clarify what was meant by ‘alert emails’, to which you responded “by "Alert
emails" I mean emails that are internal y sent to staff working on Employer Accreditations, Job Checks,
AEWVs to alert them on updates, changes or clarification on points.”
On 20 May 2024, MBIE sent you a letter noting that we had decided to extend the period of time available to
make a decision on your request under section 15A(1)(a) of the Act, as the request necessitates a search
through a large quantity of information and meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere
with the operations of MBIE.
Our Response
Please refer to the attached appendices for the information you have requested. Some information has been
withheld under the fol owing sections of the Act:
• 6(c) as making it available would be likely to prejudice the maintenance of the law, including the
prevention, investigation, and detection of offences, and the right to a fair trial;
• 9(2)(a) to protect the privacy of natural persons; and
• 9(2)(g)(ii) the withholding of this information is necessary to maintain the effective conduct of public
affairs through the protection of such Ministers, members of organisations, officers, and employees
from improper pressure or harassment.
