Dear R S Grant
Official Information Act request dated 7 March 2024.
We refer to your email dated 7 March 2024 requesting further information under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) about TVNZ’s policy on social media posts (the
Request). TVNZ’s response is set out below.
Request:
Do you have a policy on the social media posts of your journalists under accounts that
identify themselves as a TVNZ journalist?
I am asking this because I note that Tania Page, on her X account, consistently reposts
pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli posts, as wel as posts that speak against the policies
of the current NZ government. I haven't been able to identify any posts or reposts of
hers that speak to the other side of these subjects of controversy, and so I am
wondering if there is any expectation in your policies that your journalists are
expected to be balanced or impartial in their public pronouncements.
Response:
TVNZ’s Online Engagement Guidelines apply to social media activity by TVNZ
employees, contractors and Board members. A copy of TVNZ’s Online Engagement
Guidelines is attached.
We trust this response assists with your query. If you are dissatisfied with TVNZ’s
response to your request, section 28 of the Act sets out the circumstances under
which you may seek review or further investigation by the Ombudsman.
Yours sincerely
Official Information Requests Team
