Description of Work
Agrichemical and Chemical Handling
This SOP to be used in conjunction with manufacturer’s instructions.
The assigned Registered Chemical Applicator has overall responsibility to
chemical handling and storage, ensure untrained staff are adequately supervised
Risk
Controls
Poisoning
• Identify high risk/toxic chemicals and list on Hazardous
Substance Register
• Ensure appropriate warning signage is displayed
• DO NOT decan into food or drink containers
Explosions
• Flammable substances are not to be handled near hot
machinery
• Make sure incompatible substances are not stored together
• Use a dangerous goods store for large quantities of hazardous
substances
• Restrict access to hazardous substances
Chemical Spill
• Ensure you always have a spill kit and know how to use it
• PPE
Burns
• Ensure workers are trained in the sage handling, use, storage,
and disposal of hazardous substances
Dermatitis
• Use appropriate PPE as per the SDS
Eye Injuries
• Use appropriate PPE as per the SDS
Chemical Sensitivity
• Where possible substitute hazardous chemicals for less toxic
ones
• Ensure adequate ventilation
Safe Work Procedure Checklist
Pre-Operation:
• Before handling any chemical, you must be trained in its use
• Workers are required to have read and understood
Chemical Exposure and Chemical Spill • Read and be familiar with the SDS, follow the SDS for safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal
• Follow PPE requirements as specified in the SDS
• Set out the equipment required to safely complete the task
• Check for any other nearby work or activity that could affect the task
• All workers must be trained to handle the specified chemicals

Operation:
• Ensure you are in the designated workspace
• Ensure all containers have labels that show the chemical identity and appropriate hazard waring,
include secondary container, where possible include antidote information
• Re-packing to smaller quantities – to do this task safely workers wear the required PPE, once these
chemicals have been spilt into smaller containers they must be immediately marked with the correct
label and hazardous substance marking
• Clean up any spills immediately and change PPE if contaminated
Post-Operation:
• Dispose of all packaging / substances and waste as specified by the SDS
• Ensure workspace is left clean and tidy
• Ensure substances are stored as specified by the SDS

It is illegal to put hazardous waste out for council collection
