I refer to your information request dated 9 November 2023 made under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act). You have requested information in relation to entry to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of
Surgery (MB ChB) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programmes via the Health Sciences First Year
(HSFY) category for international students.
Subject to the following comments, please see below the information you have requested:
1. The number of students who received offers into the MB ChB and BDS programmes via the HSFY
International Student category are as follows:
Subject to the following comment, please see the below table which shows the number of students to
receive offers to the 2019 – 2023 MB ChB and BDS programmes via the HSFY category for international
students:
• We are unable to provide the information you have requested for the 2024 MB ChB and BDS
programmes as the admissions processes for both programmes are still ongoing and will not be
finalised until at least February 2024. On that basis, we decline providing the 2024 information
pursuant to section 18(g) of the Act, as the information requested is not held by the University as
at today’s date. We would be happy to consider a new request from you in February 2024, if you
still wish to receive the information at a later date.

2. The number of HSFY international applicants who applied via to MB ChB this year for 2024 entry
There were 49 applicants to the 2024 MB ChB programme via the HSFY category for international
students.
3. The number of HSFY International applicants who interviewed for BDS this year for 2024 entry
There were 37 applicants who attended an interview for entry to the 2024 BDS programme via the HSFY
category for international students.
4. If the number of international students admitted to BDs or MBChB is not filled, whether they
have recruited additional successful applicants or will they do so this year.
There is a cap on places for international students each year. The MB ChB and BDS programmes both
operate a waiting list and offers are made from this when places become available. HSFY international
students have been on waitlists for either programme and received offers from the waitlist in previous
years.
