Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 19 October 2023 in
which you asked for information relating to the Ranfurly Shield.
My response to each of your questions are below.
Has NZ Police been requested to test for drug use on the Ranfurly Shield.
Did the police undertake their own investigation.
Police has not received a request to test for drug use on the Ranfurly Shield and are not
investigating any incidents relating to the Ranfurly Shield.
Please provide all test results and what if any tests were undertaken.
This portion of your request is refused under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the information
requested does not exist.
Please provide all correspondence between NZ Police with NZ Rugby and Hawke's
Bay Rugby Union on the Ranfurly Shield or drug tests relating to it.
Police has not had any correspondence with the NZ Rugby Union or HB Rugby Union,
but has had communication with a third party, attached for your reference.
Some information has been withheld under section  9(2)(a) of the OIA, as  withholding the
information  is  necessary  to  protect  the  privacy  of  natural  persons,  including  that  of
deceased  natural  persons.  Police  considers  that  the  interest  requiring  protection  by
withholding the information is not outweighed by any public interest in its release.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied
with Police's response to your request. You can find more information here.
