Request for information in relation to mayoral expenses  
1.  We respond to your request for Official Information received by Council on 8 October 2023 for the 
fol owing information: 
 
a.  Please provide copies of al  Mayoral expenses since he/she was elected (for their entire 
tenure if they were re-elected). Happy to receive only the last seven years if he/she has been 
in office for longer. 
 
b.  This information should be readily available so should not need to be created, nor should it be 
difficult to extract. This should also not come at an expense as the public interest test should 
be applied. 
 
c.  Costs should include, but not be limited to travel and accommodation costs, vehicle / fuel / EV 
costs etc, hospitality / entertainment, gifts, public relations, advertising etc. This must include 
amounts charged to existing accounts, not just expenditure claimed back from him/him in the 
form of claims. This wil  include the reasons for spending public money.  
 
Decision 
 
2.  We have decided to grant your request in part.  
 
3.  We have also decided to refuse your request in part subject to s7(2)(a) of the Local Government 
Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.  
4.  We have redacted the personal contact details of Mayor Sam Broughton where the redaction is 
necessary to protect his privacy. Council considers that the Mayor would have an expectation that his 
personal email address, postal address, financial information and or cell phone numbers would not be 
provided wider than the intended recipient or become public information. 
Section 7(2)(a) protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural persons. 
5.  We have considered whether it is in the public interest to release this information, but do not believe 
that it is in the public interest to release this information due to the reasons given above.
