Request for information in relation to a Southern Super City 
  
1.  We respond to your request for Official Information received by Council on 29 September 2023 for the 
following information:  
 
a. Between Selwyn District Council et al and Christchurch City Council et al; all material, 
correspondence, emails, letters, meeting notes, presentations, for and over the discussions 
concerning the same, and 
 
b. Any correspondence, announcement, declaration, request for involvement and or feedback 
with the residents and ratepayers of Selwyn.  
 
Background 
 
2.  We note that Selwyn District Council is a partner in the Greater Christchurch Partnership. This is a 
voluntary coalition of Local Government, Mana Whenua and Government agencies that work 
collaboratively together for Greater Christchurch. 
 
3.  More information about this partnership is available on the Greater Christchurch website at 
www.greaterchristchurch.org.nz.  
 
Decision  
  
4.  We have decided to grant your request in part.  
 
5.  The only information Council holds about a Southern Super City is an email from a resident to Mayor 
Sam Broughton. This email also contained information about another matter which is not relevant to 
this request and therefore we have redacted in its entirety. 
 
6.  We have also decided to refuse your request in part subject to s7(2)(a) of the Local Government 
Official Information and Meetings Act 1987. 
7.  We have redacted other parties contact details where the redaction is necessary to protect their 
privacy. Council considers that people contacting the Mayor would have an expectation that personal 
email addresses and or cell phone numbers would not be provided wider than the intended recipient or 
become public information.  
Section 7(2)(a) protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural persons. 
8.  A copy of the redacted email is enclosed.
