Tēnā koe Mr Wilson
Thank you for your email of 31 July 2024 to Te Kaunihera o Pōneke | Wel ington City Council (the
Council) fol owing our response to your request of September 2023 (below).
all correspondence between Wel ington City Council and 'Guardians of the Golden Mile'
(GGM) regarding the Let's Get Wel ington Moving (LGWM) project under the LGOIMA,
including emails, letters, reports, and other relevant documents from council employees or
officials.
Of particular interest is the letter reportedly sent by Michael Wolff to the Wellington City
Council, as mentioned in the NZ Herald article titled "Legal action launched over plan to
remove cars from Wellington’s Golden Mile" dated 20 September
Your request has been considered under the Local Government Of icial Information and Meetings Act
1987 (LGOIMA). Please find my response below.
1. Are there any plans for the withheld correspondence to be made public in the near future? If
so, could you provide an estimated timeline for its release?
The Council has no plans to proactively release correspondence between Wel ington City
Council and Guardians of the Golden Mile.
2. If the information wil not be released, could you please clarify why the public interest in
disclosing the correspondence does not outweigh the reasons for withholding it?
The request was refused under section 7(2)(i) of the Act to enable any local authority holding
the information to carry on, without prejudice or disadvantage, negotiations. At the time of the
original request, the Council was in negotiations to avoid legal proceedings and there is a
strong public interest in Council being able to conduct such matters.
