Dear Daniel

Request made under the Official Information Act 1982

Thank you for your email of 3 August 2023 requesting the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

I am seeking data on al  reported incidents involving fatalities or serious injuries within the last
year in the vicinity of schools in the Auckland region. Please include information on the exact
location of each incident, the date and time it occurred, a brief description of the incident, and
any available information on the circumstances surrounding it.

If possible, I would like the data to be categorized by the schools' names and locations to
facilitate analysis and understanding of potential patterns. However, I understand that providing
such details might be subject to privacy considerations, and I am wil ing to accept anonymized
data to protect the privacy of individuals involved.

I am making this request in the interest of promoting road safety and understanding potential
risks to pedestrians, especially children, in school zones. Access to this information wil  aid in
research and analysis to identify any areas of concern and help in developing strategies to
enhance safety measures around schools.

The information you have requested regarding location, date and time are withheld under section
9(2)(a) of the Act to protect the privacy of natural persons, including deceased natural persons. We
are however providing you data for schools by specific IDs so that you can see how many crashes
happened outside each school by injury severity, day and time groupings, the vehicles involved and
the factors that contributed to the crash.

Please refer to attached spreadsheet, OIA-13254.xlsx, for the information requested. The data in the
spreadsheet should be read in conjunction with the caveats on the first page of the spreadsheet.

Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to
withhold some of the information requested. The contact details for the Ombudsman can be located at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

If you would like to discuss this reply with Waka Kotahi, please contact Kerry Greig, Manager, Data
Services by email to [email address]

Yours sincerely
