Official Information Act request relating to costs for Te Whānau-ā-Apanui to 
accompany the PM on his visit to China 
 
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act (the Act), received on 26 
June 2023. You requested: 
 
The PM is being accompanied to China by the winning Te Matatini Kapa Haka group. 
 
Under the OIA please provide the following information. 
 
The total number of performers/support staff and people associated with the group 
travelling? 
 
Total travel costs/ budget for the group - accommodation, food and beverage, per 
diems and any other associated costs. 
 
Itinerary of the group - where and when the performances are taking place? 
 
Which government department is covering the costs?  
 
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet does not hold information relating to your 
request,  but  I  believe such  information  is  held  by  the  Ministry  of  Foreign  Affairs  and  Trade. 
Accordingly, I have decided to transfer your request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade 
under section 14(b)(i) of the Act.  
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has the usual timeframes under the Act from receipt 
of this transfer to make a decision on your request.
