Official Information Request HNZ00022569
Thank you for your Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act) request of 16 June 2023 for
information relating to hysterectomy wait lists. Specifically:
1.
Number of people on the wait list for a hysterectomy.
As of 20 June 2023, there are 78 patients on the wait list for hysterectomy.
2.
The estimated wait times to have a hysterectomy.
For the calendar year 2022 a total of 74 hysterectomies were performed with an average wait
time of 214 days.
Source: Local wait list data.
3.
The method and any policies or procedures used to prioritize the waitlist.
Patients who are referred for publicly funded appointments are assessed by specialists
according to the National Access Criteria for First Assessment for the appropriate specialty.
The National Prioritisation Tool (CPAC) is used to determine eligibility and prioritisation for
treatment. Treatment wait lists are regularly reviewed by clinicians and the patients with the
highest clinical priority are booked first, followed by patients with the longest wait times.
4.
Any process that can be used to get this within another locality faster.
Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty are working with private providers across the Te Manawa Taki
region to outsource clinically appropriate patients. There are also regular discussions within
the region to review capacity and demand to provide care to patients.
