Thank you for your email of 10 June 2023 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
If you can please help me with the below questions
1) The annual cap until June 2023 is 2,000 visas granted. Today at time of making this request
on 10th June 2023, MBIE shared that as of 8th May 2023, only 19 applications has been
approved. Now, assuming each application had 2 applicants, so total of 38 visas granted! 38
visa granted out of 2000 visa target! Clearly, the approach is not yielding the results. I
understand all the factors that you have mentioned earlier like waiting time between ITA
sent and application received, reviewing application etc. However, all of this is anticipated.
Can I suggest or in fact ask if MBEI or INZ considered selecting much larger volume (about
2000) of EOI's in Aug'22 selection to make up for the gap!
2) You have already provided me with the numbers in the below format in my previous FYI
application, can I please request the latest numbers for the table below at the time of
response.
For Nov'22, Feb'23 and May'23 Queue selections:
Number of EOIs selected
Number of applicants represented by the EOI
Number of EOIs declined
Number of EOIs withdrawn
Number of Invitations to Apply (ITA) sent
Number of EOIs where further information has been requested
Number of applications submitted from ITA
Number of approved applications
Number of approved Visas as each application can have multiple visas
Number of declined applications
Number of applications stil being assessed

Our response
Question One
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) makes adjustments to each selection from the Parent Category Expressions
of Interest (EOI), based on the data we have about the likely approval and decline rates of EOIs and
subsequent parent residence applications. As advised in our previous response, the target of 2000
approvals a year applies from the 23/24 year onwards. INZ will use all available data to determine the
number of EOIs needed in each selection in order to reach this target.
