I refer to your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) received on 17 May 2023 
requesting the fol owing information from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (the 
Ministry): 
 
“Essential to the claims of punitive practices by immigration NZ of “Dawn Raid” style 
immigration style checks. 
 
I would like a request of the number of home visits for “Visa status” checks or suspected 
“overstayers” between the hours of 5pm to 8am NZ Auckland time from the last 12months 
(17th May 2022 to 17th May 2023) by Immigration New Zealand. 
 
Also please include if Police were present in the visits or not,” 
 
 
Our Response 
 
There have been 21 out of hours compliance visits conducted by Immigration New Zealand between 
17 May 2022 and 17 May 2023 during the hours of 5.00pm to 8.00am. 
 
New Zealand Police officers were present at two of the out of hours compliance visits.
