Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (“LGOIMA”):
Request for Information
I refer to your email dated 21 April 2023 requesting information on bus connections to
Matatiki: Hornby Centre and Waterloo Business Park.
Your request has been referred to me to reply.
There are currently no plans underway to change bus connections servicing these
two destinations.
Matatiki: Hornby Centre
Our services currently target Hornby town centre at the Hornby Hub Mall. Matatiki is
separated from Hornby Mall bus interchange by the South Island Main Trunk Railway
Line, which is a major barrier to pedestrian movement.
Waterloo Business Park
Route 5 already services Waterloo Business Park. Any change to route 5 to connect
Matatiki and Waterloo Business Park would possibly require a service review to get
community consultation as it could deny current service levels to housing south of the
railway line. It may require infrastructure works to make it happen and negate the
need for the bus lanes recently completed a few years ago on Main South Road.
You will be aware that if you are not satisfied with this response you are able to refer
this matter to the Office of the Ombudsman under s27 (3) of the Local Government
Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.
Should you require any further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to
contact [ECAN request email] in the first instance.
Yours sincerely,
Giles Southwell
Director Corporate Services
