Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 4 April 2023, in which you asked: 
Please provide the following for al  South Island Staff / Stations: 
1. Community Constables (i.e. commonly known term of "Community Constable" doing non
patrol constable work dealing with local issues, may also include Senior Constable or
Sergeant if they are dedicated to that role).
b. The number of "Community Constables" at each station or base.
c. The rank of "Community Constables" at each station or base.
2. Dog Section.
b. The number of Dog Section Patrol officers at each station or base.
c. The rank of Dog Section Patrol officers at each station or base.
d. How many of the Dog Section officers at each station or base are general duties.
Table 1 attached shows the breakdown of Community Constables in the South Island by station. Al  of 
them hold the rank of Constable. Please note that other ‘community-related’ position titles are held in the 
South Island at various stations, and those are not included here (e.g. School & Community Officers, Youth 
& Community Officers, Community Prevention Officers, Liaison, Iwi & Community officers etc). 
Table 2 attached shows the breakdown of dog handlers in the South Island by district. The position 
descriptions, rather than ‘Dog Section Patrol Officers’, are ‘Dog Handler - General Purpose’, ‘Dog Handler 
– Specialist’ or ‘Trainee Dog Handler - General Purpose’.
