I refer to your request for information dated 19 March 2023 made under the Official Information Act 
1982 (the Act). You have requested the following information: 
 
“the total number of HSFY students as of March 20, as well as the number of domestic 
students for the same course”. 
 
 
Please see below our response to your request. 
 
We decline your request pursuant to section 18(d) of the Act on the basis that this information will 
soon be publicly available.  Enrolment numbers are expected to be confirmed at the University of 
Otago Council meeting to be held on 27 April 2023.  We would be happy to provide you with the 
information you have requested once the information has been approved by Council.  
 
In the above cases, we consider that good reasons exist for withholding information, and this is not 
outweighed by other considerations which would make it desirable, in the public interest, to make 
the information available.  
 
If you are not satisfied with our response to your information request, section 28(3) of the Act 
provides you with the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigate and review this response. However, 
we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
