Thank you for your email on 3 March 2023, asking for “
details of all fees and reimbursements
paid to past and present Board members, by Board member, on a monthly basis, between 1
July 2022 and 28 February 2023”.
Please find attached the information you have requested. I apologise for the delay in providing our
response. The time taken is not what we aspire to in order to meet our obligations for responding
to information requests. This is something we are working to get on top of, in the context of being a
new organisation and dealing with a high volume of requests (given understandable high public
interest in our work).
For context, Te Whatu Ora is a new entity which amalgamates 20 district health boards, 7 shared
services agencies, Te Hiringa Hauora and a number of functions formerly part of Manatū Hauora.
The DHBs had around 215 Board members, costing approximately $6 mil ion each year in fees.
Te Whatu Ora pays its Board members consistent with the terms of their appointment. The board
fees set by the Minister of Health are a daily rate of $2500 for the role of Chair and a daily rate of
$1750 for the role of Board member. Board members work dif erent hours each month depending
on the workload required, which is reflected in the different fees amounts paid to dif erent Board
members. As a new entity, with significant amalgamation and transformation work to undertake,
the initial workload for our Board is also higher than we expect long term.

When considering the tables in Appendix 1 above, please note:
• As per your request, information has been collated between the time frame 1 July 2022 and 28 February 2023, the date of your request.
• The amounts in the table relate to the amount paid for each month (and, for the avoidance of doubt, do not relate to when an invoice was
received).
• Each member is responsible for recording their hours and submitting their own invoices and expense claims for payment.
• Board members work different hours each month depending on the workload required and dif ering roles and responsibilities.
• Unless otherwise stated below, the terms of Board members commenced on 1 July 2022.
• Naomi Ferguson was appointed to the Board of Te Whatu Ora on 29 September 2022.
• Dr Jeff Lowe was appointed to the Board of Te Whatu Ora on 1 November 2022.
