Information Request – Fireworks call outs and incidents data
I refer to your official information request dated 1 January 2023 asking for the following
information
.
“Would you please be able to provide the following information in relation to fireworks,
The total tally of firework related incidents by city/suburb/region for the years 2020, 2021,
2022.
Any fire fighters that were killed, injured, or treated for smoke inhalation due to fireworks
for the years 2021, 2022.
The total tally of children injured or killed by incidents involving fireworks for 2021, 2022.
Any data or tally of animals injured or killed due to fireworks for 2021, 2022.
How many buildings/houses/structures were damaged or destroyed by firework related
fires in 2021,2022.”
In accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), please find
enclosed the following information.
• Fireworks related incidents by Region, City and Suburb between 1 January 2020 and 31
December 2022
• Structures affected by fireworks related fires between 1 January 2021 and 31 December
2022
We do not have record of any firefighters, children or animals killed, injured, or treated for smoke
inhalation due to fireworks for the years of 2021 and 2022. Therefore, this aspect of your request
is declined under section 18(e) of the OIA as the information does not currently exist or despite
reasonable efforts cannot be found.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
