Thank you for your emails to both Unitec and MIT of 17 October 2022, requesting the fol owing 
information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the OIA):  
.. all documents held by [Unitec and MIT] pertaining to the appointment of Fale Andrew Lesa 
to the [Unitec and MIT boards]. Documents sought may include, but are not limited to: a 
copy of the CV provided by Mr Lesa as part of his appointment process, a copy of any 
correspondence between government ministers and [Unitec and MIT] pertaining to Mr Lesa's 
appointment, documents that containing due diligence or evaluations of Mr Lesa by [Unitec 
and MIT] (e.g. documents setting out how [Unitec and MIT were] satisfied that Mr Lesa was 
qualified for appointment), and any referee statements provided by a third party regarding 
Mr Lesa's appointment 
As noted in our acknowledgement, on 1 October 2022 MIT and Unitec transitioned to become 
business divisions of Te Pūkenga. This means I am now responsible for the release of information 
under the OIA by those divisions.  
This letter provides a response to your requests under the OIA. 
The appointment of MIT and Unitec board members was made by the IST Establishment Board early 
in 2020 and as such neither MIT nor Unitec holds information related to these appointments. 
Appointments to former ITP subsidiary boards were made prior to establishment of Te Pūkenga, 
subject to ratification and approval by the then NZIST Council on 1 April 2020. This process included 
an update on the subsidiary board appointments. Details of documents Te Pūkenga holds within 
scope of your requests, that I am releasing to you at this time, are detailed in the table at Appendix 
A. This includes where information has been withheld under the OIA, which includes information out 
of scope of your request and personal information related to board fee remuneration (withheld 
under section 9(2)(a) of the OIA).

While Te Pūkenga does not hold any further information within scope of this request I can advise 
that personal information specific to board member Fale Andrew Lesa, such as CVs, referees, and 
evaluations, would not able to be released under Principle 11 of the Privacy Act 2020 and section 
9(2)(a) of the OIA in order to protect his privacy. 
You have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the OIA if you are 
not happy with this response. Information about how to do this is available at
