Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-028258
Thank you for your email of 9 October 2023, asking for further information following our response of
5 October 2023 (Ref: GOV-027791) under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):

Please provide me with the number of claim numbers allocated for each of the time periods in your
answer to this request.
For each of the time periods, please state the number of claims classified as a treatment injury claim
which were allocated to the Treatment Injury Claims team and the number of treatment injury
claims which were allocated to another team).
Please provide a breakdown of TI claims by read code for Waikato DHB and Other DHBS, as well as
the number accepted for that read code, and declined, based on the dates provided in your earlier
response.

Number of claims lodged annually
You can see the total number of all claims lodged with ACC each year on the Data.govt.nz website at:
https://catalogue.data.govt.nz/dataset/acc-general-claims-data-update. As this data is publicly available,
we are not providing a copy of it in this response. This decision has been made under section 18(d) of the
Act.

Allocation of treatment injury claims
We have interpreted treatment injury claims ‘allocated to the Treatment Injury Claims team…’  as referring
to treatment injury claims that were coded with ‘Treatment Injury Centre’ on the date the initial cover
decision was made. These claims are assessed by specialist staff within ACC’s Cover Assessment team.

The information for this part of that question is attached as Appendix 1. When interpreting the data
provided, please refer to the ‘Notes’ tab, which includes a list of Treatment Injury Centre queues.

Once a treatment injury claim is accepted, it is allocated to an appropriate Recovery team for case
management, such as Supported Recovery. ACC does not have a Recovery Team that specializes in
managing treatment injury claims. Therefore, all accepted treatment injury claims are allocated to a
Recovery Team for case management. The numbers of accepted claims are provided in Table 1 in
Appendix 2.

Breakdown of treatment injury claims by read code by DHB, (Waikato and other DHBs), accepted and
declined
The requested information is attached to this letter as Appendix 2. We have re-run the data provided in our
5 October response, to include the most up-to-date information. The data includes claims lodged between
1 January 2016 and 28 October 2023.

Claim counts fewer than four
Some entries in the table only indicate that the claims count is fewer than four (denoted as <4). This limits
the potential for individuals or matters related to certain individuals from being identified. This decision has

been made under section 9(2)(a) of the Act. In doing so, we have considered the public interest in making
the information available and have determined that it does not outweigh the need to protect our clients’
privacy. Likewise, due to the small claims counts for some Read codes, we have not provided the data for
each year.

If you have any questions about this response, please get in touch
You can email me at [email address]. If you are not happy with this response, you can also
contact the Ombudsman via [email address] or by phoning 0800 802 602. Information
