Thank you for your Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act) request of 29 August for:
In April-May 2022, Auckland Council carried out an initial period of public
consultation for a proposed intensification plan change. I am writing to request a
copy of the submission you made (if any). It would most likely have been dated early
May, as the consultation period closed on 9th May.
Your request is refused under section 18(e) of the Act – that the document alleged to contain the
information requested does not exist. Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban
Development did not make a submission on Auckland Council’s draft intensification plan change.
The Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2021
(the Amendment Act) was passed into law with cross party support from the National Party, Green
Party and Te Paati Māori, and requires councils to amend their district plans to enable more
medium density housing in New Zealand’s major urban areas. It also speeds up the
implementation of the National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPS-UD) by introducing
a new plan change process. The NPS-UD requires district plans to enable further intensification
around urban centres and transit stops.
Auckland Council has now notified its intensification plan change, and invited submissions on this
from 18 August to 29 September 2022. The plan change and submissions wil now be considered
by an Independent Hearings Panel.
