Information regarding the public service in New Zealand
Thank you for your email of 25 May 2022 in which you raise a number of queries about the
public service.
You have asked whether public servants in New Zealand are required to take an oath or
post a bond while carrying out their role. I can advise that public servants do not take an
oath of office or post a bond.
In response to your remaining queries, the Ministry of Justice cannot provide you with legal
advice which is what you will need in this case. Free services may be available to you from
the Community Law Centre at: www.communitylaw.org.nz/. You can also discuss this issue
with the Citizens Advice Bureau who may be able to provide general advice on this matter.
More information is available at: www.cab.org.nz/.
Thank you for writing.
