Thank you for your email of 7 April 2022 requesting the following under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
On 7 April 2022 Minister Parker announced central government funding would be 
given to a project to undertake restoration riparian planting in Porirua (Funding Boost 
Spells Brighter Future For Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour | Scoop News). 
According to the press release (Jobs for Nature to help restore Porirua Harbour | 
Beehive.govt.nz) this funding would amount to $3m and be provided under the 
Government's 'Jobs for Nature' propramme. This central government funding would 
supplement funding from Porirua City Council ($4.8M) along with some unspecified 
financial contribution from Sustainable Coastlines. 
In this regard, please provide me with a copy of the application made to, and 
approved by the Ministry, for funding which I presume was prepared and submitted 
by Porirua City Council. 
 
The Ministry for the Environment has identified two documents in scope of your request, as 
listed in the attached document schedule. Some information within these documents has 
been withheld under the following sections of the Act: 
9(2)(a) 
to protect the privacy of natural persons.  
9(2)(f)(iv)  to maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which protect 
the confidentiality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials. 
In terms of section 9(1) of the Act, I am satisfied that, in the circumstances, the withholding 
of this information is not outweighed by other considerations that render it desirable to make 
the information available in the public interest. 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Office of the Ombudsman of 
my decision to withhold information relating to this request, in accordance with section 28(3) 
of the Act. The relevant details can be found on their website at:
