Request for information
Thank you for your request dated 1 April 2022 requesting information on the Police vehicle
that drove into a gravel pit in Transmission Gul y. You requested:
I request the following information in regards to the police car that drove off the road into
the runaway on the Transmission Gul y motorway, dated 31 March 2021.
1. Ful name and badge number of the police officer driving the vehicle.
2. Total estimated cost due to the crash - include a breakdown of costs.
3. Police incident form, investigation and any other internal documents relating to
the crash.
4. Whether the officer is receiving disciplinary misconduct and/or re-training,
including any documentation related to either.

Police refuses your request under the following grounds of the OIA:
Section 9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of natural persons
Section 9(2)(g)(i ), maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the
protection of such Ministers, members of organisations, officers, and employees
from improper pressure or harassment.
An internal investigation is currently underway to assess the circumstances around the
crash and what level of intervention is required. As this matter is still under review, Police
considers the interests requiring protection by withholding the information is not
outweighed by any public interest in release of the information at this time.
However, to assist you we have requested comment from our Road Policing Team and
can advise the fol owing:
In the Wellington District al crashes involving Police vehicles are reviewed by a
Crash Committee made up of senior police officers.
The review is to assess the circumstances around the crash and whether there is
any culpability by the driver, and what level any intervention is required.
