Kia ora James,
The information you requested – CAS-504571-C2S6B3
Thank you for your request on 4 February 2022, regarding the installation of a camera on
Sandringham Road.
Purpose:
The installation on Sandringham Road is to enable the remote enforcement of the Bus Lane. There
wil  be a number of cameras and an extension arm installed on the poles to enable AT to remotely
enforce this Bus Lane Zone.
Strategy:
•  Auckland Transport is responsible for the compliance and enforcement of special vehicles
lanes on Auckland arterial roads for bus lanes.
•  Special vehicle lane enforcement for bus lanes is currently undertaken by AT employees who
travel to site with a mobile camera to record vehicles who travel in the bus lane, within set
parameters (i.e. vehicles other than a bus, motorcycle, cycle, or moped travel ing for more
than 50 metres during the hours of operation). This poses a few issues with respect to health
and safety, and is a very labour-intensive process.
•  Auckland Transport has a technology solution that enables the parking compliance team to
automate and remotely enforce these special vehicle lanes:
o  This solution uses CCTV which streams back to AT systems, with clear images of
vehicles (as per certain parameters) driving in the Bus Lane.
o  A warranted Parking Officer reviews these images and determines if an offence has
occurred, then issues an infringement notice if required.

Authorisation:
This work is authorised via an approved business case with relevant AT’s delegated financial
authority.  The business case which covers this zone on Sandringham Road is attached.

complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman in accordance with section 27(3) of the Act and seek an
investigation and review in regard to this matter.
Yours sincerely
