Dear Kate
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your emails
of 6 December 2021 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
As at 1 November 2019, 1 November 2020, and 1 November 2021 (or the nearest dates in
those years for which data is available):
1) The number of Total Mobility Card holders nationwide
2) The number of Total Mobility Card holders in each region.
As at 1 November 2021 (or the nearest date for which data is available): The number of Total
Mobility Card holders nationwide who are aged 65 or older.
The number of Total Mobility Card holders nationwide and by region is provided in Attachment 1.
As the scheme is provided for individuals who are unable to make the five stages of a public transport
journey safely and with dignity, a participant’s age is not relevant for entry to the scheme and so is not
collected. Therefore, I am refusing your request for the number of Total Mobility Card holders
nationwide over the age of 65 under section 18(g)(i) of the Act, as the information requested is not
held by Waka Kotahi and there are no grounds for believing that the information is held by another
department
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to refuse
part of this request. The contact details for the Ombudsman can be located at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
If you would like to discuss this reply with Waka Kotahi, please contact Siobhan Bakker, Policy Advisor
by email to [email address] or by phone on (04) 894 5490.
Yours sincerely
