[FYI request #17776 email]
Dear George
Thank you for your Official Information Act request, received on 22 December 2021. You
requested:
1. All communications specifically from Christopher Luxon to shareholding Ministers for
Air New Zealand relating to the company for the period 19 June 2012 to 25 October
2017;
2. All communications from anyone at Air NZ to shareholding Ministers for Air New
Zealand relating to the engine maintenance work it did for the Royal Saudi Navy for the
period 19 June 2012 to 25 October 2017;
3. All communications from anyone at Air NZ to shareholding Ministers for Air New
Zealand relating to rationalising or removing regional flights for the period 19 June
2012 to 25 October 2017.
On 28 January 2022, I wrote to you to extend the time limit for deciding on your request by an
additional 60 working days, because your request necessitated a search through a large
quantity of information, and consultation was required before a decision could be made.
No information held
We have undertaken an electronic search of the Treasury’s records and the Department of
Internal Affairs has also conducted a search of its records, relating to email communications
to the previous shareholding Ministers. Neither search identified any substantive information
relevant to your request.
Consequently, I have decided to refuse your requests under section 18(e) of the Official
Information Act – the document alleged to contain the information requested does not exist
or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.
Please note that this letter (with your personal details removed) may be published on the
Treasury website.
This reply addresses the information you requested. You have the right to ask the
Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision.
Yours sincerely
Juston Anderson
