Information Request – Local Area Committee Outputs 
 
I refer to your official information request dated 25 September 2021 asking for the following 
information in respect of the Chatham Islands and Hawke’s Bay Local Advisory Committees (LACs). 
 
“Copies of the independent information and advice (Outputs) that the Chathams LAC has 
provided to FENZ since its establishment.  Please note that I do not seek copies of 
any quarterly report by the LAC to FENZ on their activities (Inputs) unless these include 
independent information and/or advice.” 
 
Your request has been assessed in accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act 
1982.  
 
For context, LACs provide independent information and advice to Fire and Emergency New 
Zealand at their quarterly meetings which our regional and district personnel attend, and in their 
quarterly reporting to the Board. Each Committee’s information and advice is included in a register 
which is updated after each meeting.  These registers therefore form a record of the ‘independent 
information and advice’ given by LAC’s to Fire and Emergency. A decision has been made to 
release the information you requested, in the form of these registers. The information is enclosed 
as appendix 1 and 2. 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
